Mardi, a direction-less girl in her twenties, lives in the house where she grew up with five of her friends. PJ, Mardi’s best friend, is a vampish punk with a talent for perverse storytelling, while Matt is eternally trying to unleash his band “Verbal Peristalsis” on an unsuspecting public. Keith is the most responsible member of the household. (There is an unspoken mutual affection between him and Mardi, but neither will act on it). And Ramona and Jeremy, are in a volatile relationship that seems headed for more and more trouble. |
Her friends are a sort of surrogate family for Mardi, in which she takes refuge from the conflict within her real broken family - namely her older sister, Lena, and her father, Ivan. |

When Mardi finds out that her father is dying, she is haunted by her memories from the past. She starts to relive the aftermath of her brother Nathan’s death (when Mardi was ten, and Lena was fifteen) and the impact it had on her family, especially her mother Julia (who is absent from Mardi’s adult life). |
Meanwhile, back in the present, Mardi’s surrogate family also seems to be breaking down. Ramona and Jeremy wage an escalating war within the house (which starts to affect the whole household), and Lena reveals to Mardi that her housemates may have to move out soon (as Ivan might wish to move back into the house). |

But after Mardi overhears a conversation between Keith and (a very distraught) Ramona about an unwanted pregnancy, she assumes the worst about the situation (and about Keith). |

As life in her household starts to unravel, and to parallel Mardi’s memories of how her own family fell apart, is history repeating itself? Will two familles end up breaking down within these four walls? |
